Today (June 15), we join the world in commemorate World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). Since its inception 16 years ago, WEAAD has provided an opportunity to promote awareness of—and critical actions from all over the world that addresses—abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older people.
In the White House’s WEAAD proclamation, President Biden declared, “it is more vital than ever that we ensure our older adults can age with the dignity, security, and appreciation that every person deserves. Honoring and respecting older Americans is a matter of basic human dignity and justice — it is part of the character of our Nation.”
